"Lida was sixteen, and pretty enough to be the object of the hot boy’s eye. She was a regular—in a long remission from appendiceal cancer, which I had not previously known existed. She said—as she had every other time I’d attended Support Group—that she felt strong, which felt like bragging to me as the oxygen-drizzling nubs tickled my nostrils."
— Hazel Grace

Lida is a 16 year-old regular attendee of the Support Group, who suffered from appendical cancer and, but was always saying she felt strong as well as encouraging the other cancer sufferers within the Support Group. It is later said she survived the cancer. She is described as being pretty, blond, healthy, and stout. She appears to have recovered exponentially from her cancer and is not afraid to practically shove that fact in everybody's face, a fact which considerably annoys Hazel.

When Hazel Grace comes back to the support group the day before leaving for Amsterdam with Augustus Waters, Lida tells Hazel what she has missed, before being interrupted by a "cute, chubby" girl named Susan, presumably her friend.

Later, she starts listening when Lida says her name, and starts thinking about Lida, and it is revealed Lida swims on her high school's swim team. It is also revealed Lida is missing an appendix and that she is in remission.

Hazel Grace

“Hazel is such an inspiration to me; she really is. She just keeps fighting the battle, waking up every morning and going to war without complaint. She’s so strong. She’s so much stronger than I am. I just wish I had her strength.”
— Lida talking in the Support Group

Lida seems to like and admire Hazel Grace, and states that she's an inspiration to her. Hazel replies saying “I’ll give you my strength if I can have your remission.” Lida doesn't seem fazed, though, and soon rushes to Hazel to give an explanation and apology.
