  • I was wondering when Hazel dies, if she dies after Augustus does.

      Loading editor
    • She dies after Augustus because he dies before her. ;D

    • She dies eventually, due to the fact that she is only mortal, and will succumb to oblivion due in part either to her death from her illness or possibly other causes and somehow lives longer than expected. Everyone dies, why shouldn't Hazel.

    • In the book, Augustus' movie starts before Hazels on the plane. This is extreme foreshaddowing because Augustus dies before Hazel just as his movie kept starting before hers. I believe that Hazel dies shortly after Augustus due to the lack of will to move on.

    • Okay so you obviously haven't read the book (or seen the movie!) but if you want I'll provide a spoiler.

      SPOILER AHEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:

Hazel doesn't die (as in the book/movie ends before she dies she must die at some point because she is only mortal), Augustus does.

    • Hazel does not die in The Fault in Our Stars, (Spoiler Alert, Augustus dies) but she will die eventually, because she is mortal and must die. She will either die of her cancer, old age, or some accident. Hazel is not immortal. We will all die eventually.

    • The first time I watched this movie it was only because my brothers were watching it with their frineds and i thought it was boring so i left, but a year later i watched it again and loved it, just started the book and i love it so far, i know this sounds horrible, but i really hope hazel dies soon after (which aperently she does) but only because i want her to be with gus

    • I was just watching the movie and something has led me to beilive that when she reads the letter Gus writes to her that she dies. Think abotu it: she's wearing the white dress, the one I'm pretty sure she was talking about being her death dress when they were at the dinner in Amsterdam. And its like she's talking to Gus in the afterlife when she says 'okay' back to him and then closes her eyes. They never said in the book for sure when but my guess is it was that day in the movie. Also, there's a phsyc thing that says that those who love each other tend to die together. Kind of like in The Notebook and maybe even in TFIOS

    • She does die, john green tweeted hazel grace died a year after augustus waters, we all die, everyone has a time, everyone has a place, and if you fear oblivion, there will be no one left to remember anyone who lived, if that scares u then, everything scares you..

    • In the movie she does not die but in life no one is immortal apart from God and Jesus Christ and the holy spirit. Amen.

    • It is said that she dies after a year since Augustus Water's death *sniffle*. God bless them a happy life, and I hope Augustus's eulogy is recited. My writing will not ressurect, it will bury, but let me hope that word gets out there and there will be luck in front of the dead (and nonexistent deceased mortals), lying ahead.

    • John Green does tell us she died a year later, and so, and this is pure fan fiction here, I think she dies on his anniversary. Too heart broken and weak to go on, she just curls up, in her dress and replaying Gus' letter which she has memorized by now, and suffers from broken heart syndrom. Her parents think she is simply asleep in the back yard but when theh discober she is gone, they make arrangments and bury her next to Gus, with his letter to her still clutched to her chest. Just an idea...

    • as hazel grace said, there is only oblivion, so in her words, it does not really matter who dies and who does not. but to all of the people that in reality, john has affected, he will leave his mark on the world. as peter van houten said, the fiction ceases to exist the moment the book ends. hazel can live indefinetely, in here small infinity of the pages of her book, reliving over and over the amount of times that you read her book, the time spent with agustus waters. or she can die. she could lead a long and happy life, a happy enging, no oblivion whatsoever. the consolation that we find in our imagination will have to do for now, so be it that there is no ending, and be it that there is oblivion.

    • Hazel must have died 2-3 months after Gus and her mum had become a Patrick, inspiring and supporting people to have hope, still when is no reason to. Hazel should be sighing to see it from heaven and Gus should be making fun of Hazel for that in heaven. Issac must have read an eulogy wriuten by Gus before his death, to be read on Hazel's funeral. Coming back to Hazel's death, she is died almost an early morning like Gus with dad, mom and Gus's parents near by as they were expecting it due to here bad breathing and a related heart problem. She wore the same dress of the awesome lake side date in Amsterdam, not the death dress! She was also cremated next to Gus with special interest of both parents. Her parents still keeps her room intact and with some more framed photos of Hazel and Gus together and yes, her mum still continue to be her mom and Gus's nephews used to tell, " Hazel died to be with Augustus" as they over heard the dramatic talks of their mothers and grandparents. Van Houten began writing again. But never came up with a sequel or anything. Patrick and the group now call the list of dead with Hazel next to Augustus and he still blabber about his balllessness!! Issac met a new girl at a library who went on heads on heels for him and she take care of him now along with his mother.

Hazel probably dies a year after Gus, because cancer is a side effect of dying. Side effects are probably what killed he

    • TFIOS leaves a lot to the reader's speculation.  John Green, the author indicated she died about a year after her friend, Gus Waters. *So, early Summer, 2015.  So, now that approximate date of her death is settled, a couple things to speculate on instead would be: 1.)  How does her death occur?  And, 2.)  Where do her grieving parents bury her.    Both of these could happen in this scenereo:   Hazel's health continues deteriorating over the next several months after the story ends (book or movie, take your pick).  Around late March, let's say March 26, she is struggling to breathe, so her parents rush her to the hospital, where they piut her in ICU.  She's later downgraded to critical condition.  She stabilizes but remains in critical condition.  Over the next couple months, she becomes weaker and is moved to a hospice.  Her parents visit her daily, bring her flowers, pour out their love to her.  One night in late May, she tells her father Gus Waters was the best friend she'd ever had.  And that she wants to be buried next to him.  Her father promises he'll arrange that to happen, so he sadly goes and buys the plot next to Gus's.  A few weeks later, her parents are by her bed, holding her hands (one on each side, as she falls asleep and dies peacefully.  Her father's promise is made when they place her casket on the plot they bought for her.    Her parents fulfil one other promise to their daughter.  They grieve, but they work through it together.  And end up starting a non-profit dedicated to providing emotional support to parents and family of dying teen and adult kids.  This adds a silver lining to a sad story.

    • I thought that Hazel died in end of the movie? Since she’s wearing that dress she talked about earlier and says “okay” and then just closes her eyes?
